Better Books was founded a quarter of a century ago by the late Howard Welchman. He was the first bookseller in the United Kingdom to specialise in dyslexia. Over the course of the following 17 years, Howard built a successful publishing and distribution company, operating from Chelsea Road, Bath, until illhealth forced his premature retirement.

Whilst the publishing rights were quickly picked up by other companies, the loss of the distribution side created a vacuum, until this side of Better Books was purchased by businessmen Peter and Matthew Wilkes (a father and son team) and started operating from its present location.

We do our best to continue the fine Better Books tradition by supplying an ever increasing range of SpLD books from the United Kingdom, U.S.A. and Australia.

In addition to expanding our mail-order business, we have also widened our programme of exhibition work, and we now stage book displays throughout the whole of the British Isles.
